Welcome to Off the Record — Real Talk from The DUI Guy
If there’s one thing I’ve learned after over 20 years defending DUI cases in Utah, it’s that most people have no idea what really happens after those red and blue lights flash in the rearview mirror.
Everyone’s heard something — “just refuse the test,” “you’ll be fine if it’s your first one,” or “it’s only a DUI if you’ve been drinking.”
The problem? Most of that advice is wrong.
That’s why we’re launching Off the Record, a space where Utah’s DUI defense gets personal.
Why We Started This Blog
When you’re facing a DUI charge in Utah, confusion is often your worst enemy. The internet is full of conflicting information, and the law isn’t exactly written in plain English.
At The DUI Guy, we believe that everyone deserves to understand what they’re up against — without the legal jargon or scare tactics. Whether it’s how breathalyzer testing works, what to do within 10 days of your arrest to protect your driver’s license, or how marijuana and prescription DUIs are treated just like alcohol, we’ll break it all down here.
This isn’t your average legal blog.
It’s real talk from the people who handle these cases every day.
What You Can Expect
In Off the Record, we’ll cover topics that matter to you:
The truth about Utah’s strict 0.05% BAC limit — and how it affects even responsible drivers.
What really happens during a DUI stop, from field sobriety tests to chemical testing.
How blood, breath, and weed-related DUIs are investigated (and defended).
The most common mistakes people make after an arrest — and how to avoid them.
Real stories, insights, and a few of our signature one-liners along the way.
